Help Retain New Players

We all know the game could do with having a bigger playerbase again, but the best players are too good and newer players that would play the game just don't stand a chance. So I've come up with a suggestion that might help retain newer players.

This would be a world setting, it may seem radical at first but please hear me out on this:

  • When you join the world, you're automatically assigned a tribe.
  • The tribe isn't based on location, members will be spread all over the map
  • You can't leave that tribe for the entire duration of the world.
  • No attacking tribemates, and no outside support.
  • You can only attack other tribe members that have been inactive for 5 days, and if they log back in when an attack is on it's way to them the attack just 'visits' the village.
  • Likely 20-25 tribes set up (would need to look into the stats specifically to work this out) which could mean 50-100 active or semi-active players.

This will allow new players a chance to learn the game. The best chance a decent player has of his tribe winning the world will be to teach the other players in his tribe how best to play the game, they will learn the ropes and in the long-term it should actually help us retain more players in the game. Instead of the best players joining a tribe together, they are having to teach less experienced players better methods on playing the game.


  • One Alternative to the second (and sixth) bullet point, is that there are 6 tribes per starting direction (24 tribes total) so you will be closer to your tribemates and find slightly less competition around building a tribe cluster.
  • One Alternative to the third bullet point, is that once a tribe is down to just 5 players left, they can receive offers from other tribes to merge into them because endgame with 24 tribes of 3 members each could take a long time.

Let me know what you think, or what needs to be clarrified or improved from this suggestion.

W27 on .net had a similar concept, a number of pre-created tribes before the world started and as people joined they were randomly allocated to each tribe. Once the tribe had a certain amount of members they voted for a duke. The duke then set up their council etc...

Only after 3 months could members shuffle around and leave/join other tribes.

World will open Thursday the 13th of November, between 15:00 and 17:00 ST

Server speed: 1.1x
Troop Speed: .9x
Packages, No Paladin, No archers
No Tribe Limit, No Leaving tribes or disbanding them.
Techs: 15
Beginner Protection: 5 days

Location is random, you can not support people outside your tribe.

When a player joins a server they will automatically be put in a random tribe.

You can not attack your tribe mates.

There will be 200 Tribes created for when the world begins. For the first 3 months you will not be able to disband or leave your tribe.

After Three months, you will be able to leave or disband any tribe or join any other tribe.

The duke will be elected by the tribe, within the tribes forums.


Once a tribe has 100 members, the tribe will have 4 days to do voting. After 4 days the duke will receive their title and be able to appoint their council. The person with majority vote will receive duke.

Very interesting thanks. How was it then? Did you play it? I played up to world 24 on the .net server so I missed out on that.

Do you think it would work better with the numbers we get on the UK server?

Ok I like the idea of this, but maybe it could actually be set up as a training world where the best players from the various UK world's (that are still playing and have already been mentors) would be willing to give up their time and instead of being paid in real money could be paid in premium points that they could also use on one of the other world's they play on.

It was an odd world. Many ego's collided and so on. There is a reason they never tried that again.

This probably wouldn't work for the reasons it doesn't happen much by itself naturally.

Tw used to have a strong community and whilst mad ego's have always existed, so too did tribes like teach you, and relevant guide writers and people having like actual apprentice style relationships.

Now tw is essential a few cliques covering their own inadequacies by styling on noob players, n that will unfortunately include any new blood.
