Morale is something that affects how well your troops will fight. This is done so big players can't pick on the small ones as easily.
It's affected by both players' points, I don't know the formular.

So is it like a handicap system in golf? Does moral drop everytime you attack a small village?

no the system is where lets say a 30k point player wanted a new village well if he took a 8k point village. his moral would be higher than lets say taking a 2k village. Once you learn it its not that hard.
Also with barbs. your moral is ALWAYS 100%

Lets say you race your friend somewhere. He is faster than you, so he gives you a head start. Essentially, the morale system is the same. The "headstart" is given to the player with the lowest points.
