Ouch indeed.

Although I hate to break it too you, but Rams do actually hold a defensive value, mildly stronger than a spear, so when defense is stretched, why not use them.

At times, every little helps.

Every little does help, would you use rams to try and hold a retake? I know i would not.

Depends on the situation.

If you sim it, 200 rams and 200 cats would kill a noble accompanied by 500 axes and 100lc or 250lc or 800 axes.

I know I would try retake a retake with that few troops if I had to, so if I figured the local nukes of the enemy had been blown taking the villa then yes, why not have a crack and sacrifice some rams to potentially save a villa.
