For me, desktop skype launched successfully, however it's intermittently showing that it's "trying to connect" even though I can send and receive messages normally..

My suggestion would be to keep trying until you manage to login during this "up time", as it seems that there is some sort of issue between load balancers and LDAP authentication components.

This sounds like a server side issue rather than a client side as everyone seems to be experiencing some sort of the problems
