Belgium

Hello everyone.
What are your thoughts about Belgium? The country which hasn't had a government for more than a year now.
Each try to form a government fails. The two communities can't form compromisses about certain important reformations.
Future isn't looking bright.
What do you think/know about this subject?

In this modern day, it's the biggest pile of rubbish that the two communities can't form together for the good of the country. Come on, even blooming Northern Ireland can do it.

Indeed it is. The economic wealthier part (Flanders) is voting quite nationalistic, without knowing it. They're voting for someone who wants to seperate the country but don't realize it.
It's a pity.

Would Belgium be able to survive if it was split though?

Obviously, Belgium couldn't survive after a split, since Belgium wouldn't exist anymore. The question is indeed if the two communities will be able to manage themselves after a split.

Hasn't this problem been on and off for nearly 200 years? Should never have broken away from the Netherlands.

That's a shame.

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the situation, but not being able to form a government for a year isn't necesserily a sign of forthcoming disaster. Eventually the people may start voting for ideologies instead of languages. I can't really see a rich, modern, liberal democracy like Belgium descending into civil war or anything like that.
