Offensive, Defensive, No Fences

Sorry if this is a stupid question but...

An Axeman is a strong offensive unit - therefore he should only be expected to attack, and should not support?

An Archer is a strong defensive unit - therefore he should only be expected to support, and should not attack?

OR

It doesn't matter what they do,
An Axeman will do more damage, but is more likely to be killed.
An Archer will do less damage, but is less likely to be killed.

Which is it???

Thanks,

Pretty much the first one. You should generally use a unit in a role for which it has the highest attributes, so you use an Axeman in offense, for example, because he has a higher offensive score than he does defensive. Its easy to tell which units are O and which are D just by looking at their numbers, but still, you see plenty of players attacking with swords and spears because they have no clue which unit does what. Rams are a slightly different story, however. They only have an offensive strength of 2, but are still vital to any O army because they do dmage to the enemy's wall, which weakens their overall defence.

Hope this answers your question.

So wait..
You can't build fences in your villages?

And the first one mate. Adam basically covered it. Although, I'll add that you shouldn't have both in the village. (Don't have 500 spears, 500 swords, 500 axes, 500 archers etc)

Quite simply, it's a bad combination. In one village, it would be better to build 1000 Spears, 1000 Swords and 1000 Archers, and this village can be used for suppert, etc. In another have like 3K axes and use this to attack people, etc. You'll also nee loads of cav.

ignore the others they are being idiots

it is clearly better to have 500 axe apear sword and archer

because you can defend and attack

Shut up. You don't know anything. That's not funny and completely incorrect. The only reason I decided to open this message was because I knew that you would be saying something completely stupid.

Is this a serious answer or are you just trolling? Perhaps in your first vilage you will have to build both O and D troops until you get your second village, but it depends on your surroundings and level of activity. Once you have your second village you should start to specialise them. This is more important in terms of O units than D, as small amounts of D from a number of mixed vilages can be stacked as support. However, this would leave you with more small, and thus less powerful, O armies. As O armies can't be combined like supprt can, it makes sense to devote villages purely to O so you maximise their strength, which in turn means you have to use other villages solely for D.

I hope that didn't all go over your head, I was just typing as I thought, trying to explain why villages should be specialised.

Stop giving misleading answers, it isn't cool or funny. Spears are only good for 2 things:

1) Farming early on in the world, before you can start to farm with decent numbers of light cavalry.

2) As part of a defensive army where they contribute defence againt cavalry.

They shoud NEVER be used in an attacking army in place of axes as the main offensive infantry unit as you suggested.

He's trolling and thinks it's funny. Fortunately, I skinned my food cupboard bear yesterday :icon_wink:

If you need that extra hand in your nuke, then your nuke isn't big enough. Just train more Axes and Light Cavalry instead of wasting pop. space in an O village on D troops.

No, just no.

Swords have one purpose in O. You build 5 or less of them for timing purposes.

i know for a fact, when your nuke is a little short in the simulator.
its nice to have that 25 offence from the swords :)

but of course swords would be for last resorts in offence

There is no time that adding 25 swords in attack is preferable to 25 axes. Quit spewing drivel.
