Now, i believe that prostitutuion is just a way to exploit those who are in unfortunate places and need money.
This makes them vulnerable to exploitation due to neccesity.

In the current system, with prostitution illegal, I agree. However, if we legalized prostitution and made it an industry. Any woman could do it and they wouldn't be exploited. With laws and regulations we could also stop the spread of many STDs.

Making prostitution an industry… That would be the main link to a new disease. Not a lot of woman would want to do that, and that is why women have been fighting for rights and getting these right. It would be a small percentage of women who would do it. I don’t think men would mind we are into that kind of stuff.

I am pretty sure it is a womans right to sell her body or not. Or do we have different definitions of what someones right is? My definition is you should be able to do whatever you want to with your own body so long as it does not harm someone else. If a woman wants to sell her body, then its her right to do it, so long as she checks in and makes sure she is clean of diseases. It would not be forced upon women to prostitute themselves.

I don't understand... Are you saying that because they have no money, they are forced to have sex with random strangers for money?

More like daddy had boundary issues so they think that they are worth the $10 an hour.

Every STD would be a bigger problem. Although if it was legalised then I'm sure a union or something along those lines would be set up to try and combat that by having regular tests etc.

I'm sure everyone would be happy to get a female's opinion on this, so lets do this.

While I am not a fan of prostitution, I think that it should be legalized. As KV said, legalizing it would help stop the exploitation of prostitutes.

These women (or men) don't grow up telling their parents every night "I want to be a prostitute when I grow up!" They are just like you and me, wanting to be an engineer, a lawyer, a doctor, a writer for Vogue. They turn to prostitution because they come across an economic situation where they do not have money. I am not going to lie, many of them get to this position because of bad habits they have (smoking, drinking, pot, heroin, etc.), but some get there because their parents lost their job, the stock market went bad, a boyfriend screwed them over, or some other reason.

As for the STD thing, I'm not so sure that legalizing prostitution would do that much in terms of halting the spread of STDs, though it probably would help. While I hate myself for saying this, the only 100% sure fire way to stop STDs is to somehow force everyone with an STD to not have sex for the rest of their life.

I could go on and on on this topic, but I have class soon, and need to study. So I shall leave you with these few thoughts.

Also they would more than likely be issued licences, which would have to be signed by their Gp every so often after a full inspection and testing.

Thats right, but how do you want to test them if they have STD? And the second point is: its again the human rights and in a globalized world you can get STD in abroad, too. So you must test them every year. Thats not possible, a serious test costs too much.

I know. That is one of the drawbacks, and one of the reasons that stopping STDs is so damn hard.

I guess the US could test everyone in the country, and then test people coming into the country. Try to stop things that way I guess.

Once again, that is a seriously expensive undertaking, so it would probably never happen.

(That and students at Texas Tech wouldn't have anything to do in their spare time :icon_twisted
